May 2009 at 19:38 Just for a laugh I asked a local independant garage the price..was quoted 6.5 hours labour @£75=00p/h +vat and advised the cam belt kit was about £150=00 again +vat..thats is over £600 without even talking about water pump .

Yes - this was me - paid£270 for cambelt change. Something went wrong 4 miles from leaving dealer after fitting - dealer blamed bolts and they allegedly went to a specilaist engineer for testing. Any way it needed a new engine when the belt moved - VX paid for everything.

It did not end there - after new engine fitted had to go back twice with things they had not refitted onto new engine properly. They tried to sell me a new starter until I insisted they check earthing. I understand VX Luton paid for the engine and VX dealer paid for labour - 14 hour job I think it is classed as.
