You do of course mean Sky HD ish....as its not True HD.....

Absolutely, and in some cases 1080i can look worse than 720p

Indeed, more flicker and a less stable picture is often the result.

Still an improvement on the 576 displayed interlaced lines of analogue.....although the digital compression does work against it (quite badly in some cases!)

I didn't mean that no, I think the picture quality is very good, yes its not true HD, it never will be when it has to be compressed so much before its transmitted. I prefer the 1080i setting over the 720p setting only because the 1080i horizontal resolution is higher 1920x1080 vs 1280x720. Now I am no expert and it may not make any difference to the picture, I just prefer to have my TV running at its native resolution.

Probably not, but I don't think the human eye can tell the difference.

I have read that 720p will perform better with high motion video like sports etc. might swap it over for a week or so, see If I can see a difference!

Well with the 1080i setting you get 720 even pixels displayed and then 720 odd pixels displayed.....with the 720p it displays 720 pixels and lights 2 pixels instead of one!
