No experience of diabetes in dogs mate, but if it were our dog we would try first to work at treating the diabetes or at least learning to cope with it......

Dont kill a dog unless there is no other way forward

The vet will give you all the support you need, i had to alter my dogs diet, regular excersise, the only thing that put me off at first was having to inject her with insulin, after 3 goes it did not bother me.

give it a try, you will be amazed at how well you adjust.

Our last dog we had, a cairn terrior had diabetes for about 3-4 yrs , he had to have insulin injections every day but he had full and active life till the end, funniest thing was having to follow him round 1st thing in morning trying to get a urine sample with a little plastic bowl Smiley Smiley With a rottie you better follow him with a bucket Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin So like the others have said its nothing unuseual ,and the dog seems to know when you give its in the scruff of the neck it doesnt mind cos its seems to understand its for its own health

yep..dogs and cats can also have diabetes..

but not the end of life..

you will need to make injections regularly..

you will learn how to make injections after some trial ( I confess not easy) but you have to be quick..

catch some loose skin, strecth a bit upwards  and horizontally make the injection..

will not be easy with a dog though Undecided

ps: the type of injection I used was for some viral sickness..

if the equipment used for diabetes in humans can be used I think will be easier..

It a decision you can never make lightly.
I wouldn't worry about crying mate, you should've seen me when we'd made the same decision with a cat of ours a couple of years ago.

Oh mate, my up most sympathy goes to you. I've had to do exactly the same twice before with past Rottie's. It breaks your heart, it really does. I now have another called Hanna, she's so loving & very protective of me. She's a rescue dog & i would recommend you having another, not to replace, but to give you the love that you are missing. Cry all you need to mate, i have twice over Sad Sad Sad Cry
