Front brake pads

Perhaps this has been asked before but how do the pads fit into the caliper as one pad has a shim (metal plate on the back) but the other one has not. At the moment the one with the shim is on the piston side..opinions would be appreciated.

As far as i know thta is the correct way round. Set i just fitted had them on all four. When replacing use copper slip as well as this helps reduce the chance of squealing brakes
