My son just got home from school. He's quite a chatterbox.

"Dad, when you leave a room you must turn out the light."

"You shouldn't have the heating on very much, you should wrap up in blankets."

"You shouldn't drive your car except on long journeys and you shouldn't fly or use rockets, 'cos it puts bad things into the air."

Me: "What bad things?"

"Can't remember what it was called."

Me: "Where did you learn all this?"

"In class today".

He's just turned 5
and most of his reception classmates are just

4

years old.

Never to young to receive the Greenie message, it would seem.

My lad came home with this all this stuff a while back. I told him to tell his teacher to teach him maths and english and I would look after his social conscience.

When he came home the next night he said that he couldn't remember what I'd said so he told his teacher that his dad said she was talking rubbish.

Cant wait for parents evening. Shocked

Nov 2009 at 16:45 i took my son out of religious education 5 years ago, told them i would take them to court if they forced him to learn any other religion but his own. in the 5 years he was there his class learnt every other religion but the COE. he had an extra hr doing IT instead.

Nov 2009 at 17:59 Another possible cause for concern regarding educational indoctrination of children is the governments announcement last week that in the near future pupils from the age of 5 upwards will be taught about sex,drugs and relationships, and parents will not have the right to have their children excluded from these lessons.

School won't allow my son to do anything else, all they say is it's compulsary, he usually goes to McDonalds whenever he has it which doesn't bother me to be honest, he has been on numerous reports for it too, I have asked if he could do something more productive but they said to me he simply has to do it.

i have no time for religion at all. as long as its not thrown in my face i dont give a hoot about it.

The more I think about this, the more insidious I find it.

At the age of 5:

My son does not have a driving licence.
He has not, at least to my knowledge, booked any flights.
He cannot operate the central heating programmer.
He can barely reach the light switches.

In other words, he was learning about behaviour which is not in his control, and will not be for many a year.

Then it struck me. All this he listened to today in class was not for his benefit at all. It was to ensure that it got back to his parents. In other words, using children to influence adult behaviour. Shocked

Is that ethical? Or is it exploiting kids' innocent acceptance of anything a teacher says?

I am feeling increasingly uncomfortable about this. Sad
