been offered a blackberry 8520 on orange as my contract has run out with them.its 19.50 a month with 600 mins and 500 texs and im happy with that.
but i dont no anything about blackberrys is this a good phone? or should i try and get a better blackberry out of them and which model should i go for?
i need a blackberry for a new job

I got a Blackberry Curve 8900 here. Very nice phone with great features. The 8520 is about the same, without GPS support, a lower resolution display, and an inferior camera but has an interesting optical trackpad. However, the bloody Blackberry battery only lasts for 1 or 1 1/2 days!

Blackberry phones just carried on from a legacy. In the early 90's they nailed the push e-mail sector, they were the only ones doing it well. Using BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server)

Had Blackberrys at my last job, utter shite, build is appauling, really poor usabliity, hardly any decent applications.

Its worth finding out if your new job uses BES or just standard Exchange setup, for true Windows Exchange support, get a Windows phone. You willl get used to it quick, as your used to Windows.

Are you sure they were that early? Not sure they would have had even a 2.5G connection until about a decade later.

Sent it back within 48 hrs cos it was just such hard work to use!

Keys too small, user interface unfathomable, terrible build quality, poor audio quality, neeed i go on.......!

Got a Nokia n95 8gb and as a phone and email device it kicks the blackberry off the field!

Bought Mrs Webby a Nokia E71 and that is similar to a blackberry but FAR more easier to use!

Yes, Blackberry is just a brand name, like all the others.....

My N95 8gb is set up to automatically retrieve my btinternet.com emails, which it does faultlessly.

Also, the Curve 8520 had a SHOCKLINGLY crap quality camera, compared to the 5mp one on my Nokia....

I found the Blackberry very user un-friendly, too many settings, too much faffle. The N95 is still a complex bit of kit, but much much easier to work with.....

I think alot of people just get Blackberry's to be able to tell all their mates they have one, its probably a trendy thing to have, but praticality wise, I couldnt stand the bloody thing.....it was the first phone in 12 years with Orange that I have EVER sent back.......!!!

There are other phones on the market which may be better suited to you than the Blackberry, so its worth looking around before committing.

I also notice Orange have just started shipping the Iphone out but I have never had a go on one of those so cant comment.

My N95 8gb on Orange was very easy to set up to automatically receive my personal emails from btinternet and i now get my emails via my mobile every 5 minutes.....

I have always had Nokias, and find them easy to use, well specced and (N95 in particular) very well made

Nokia E71 is a beautiful little phone mate highly recommended.........!!

The ONLY and I mean ONLY fault I could find was having to press the "2" button to focus the camera before taking a picture.

Totally lovely phone to use and hold.......
