I was in the Post Office earlier & they had signs put up at all along the counter that read

"Due to the shortage of ten pound & twenty pound notes in the financial system we have been allocated numerous fifty pound notes. Sorry for any inconvenience caused, but this is completely out of our control"

Whaaat Shocked Huh So let me get this right, the government have just pumped a few more billion into the economy, but we have a shortage of notes. Riiight Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Ok, own up who has them all Undecided Grin

I believe the billions the government pumped into the economy didn't appear as actual  £notes of any denomination.

The missing tenners and twenties are probably in socks under peoples beds.

Virtual money. Not actually printing it, although that's the common phrasology.

Hang on a sec. The shortage of fivers was put down to the fact that cashpoints didn't dish them, hence a shortgae in day to day spending. Now its tenners and twentys. Is it being suggested that everyone pays for everything with £50 notes?

Somebody told me yesterday that they aren't going to print any more £5 notes, as they are going to introduce a £5 coin.  Anybody else heard this?

Just read my own post.  I didn't mean that this chap wasn't personally going to print any more £5 notes.

I meant that the Government weren't going to print any.

At least, I assume that's what the guy meant... Sad

A five pound coin? When the £1 coin was brought in I felt as though it became devalued. A five pound coin I think might have a similar effect, apart from rip holes in your pockets.

We knew what you meant Jereboam Wink

We already have a five pound coin, it's been out for a few years, we just never see them.

I can't see that making a note into a coin de-values it Undecided
I don't recal anything of the sorts being mentioned when the pound or two pound coins where introduced.

What I meant was, it felt of lesser value as it got chucked in with all the other coins. I was more likely to spend a pound in a coin form rather than a note form. Maybe because I keep my coins and notes separate. just my mentality i guess. Undecided
