Has anyone else been watching this??

Absolutely shocking footage of the speed of the water going through the town center and the amazing skill of the coastguard rib pilots.  Even the army is going in to help.

999 system is down and several people unaccounted for  Cry

Good on Hilary Benn MP on getting up there, he looks like he's been up all night working.

These are very distressing scenes indeed, however they show the bravery and dedication of those whose duty it is to deal with the catastrophic effects of such disasters.

Not forgetting of course the people of the areas effected who have lost much. They collectively face many trials to come in their desire to return to a state of normality.

yep - was watching it last night, very serious, i think we're going to need ever better flood and coastal protection, because this area is flooding despite the massive 1 in 100yr storm protection that was put in place only 4 yrs ago  Shocked

Thats the RNLI mate. the Coastguard are more Cliff rescue, search, mud rescue and flood help.
I am a Coastguard Rescue Officer and it is surprising How many people think that the CoastGuard work on the boats,
Yes they are there and doing a bloody good and Hard job, the same as all the other rescue services on scene. and just to think that the Rnli and Coastguard are Voluntary.
There are talks about Coastguard teams Getting Boats for such things now though, with luck this tragedy will push them a bit so it happens.

Sorry about the spelling

Flooding is a nightmare for many months after.  I live and work in Herefordshire and Shropshire which get hit by the Severn, Teme and Wye-remember Tenbury in 2007?

Many clients I saw who were flooded in 2007 were still in temporary accommodation more than 12 months after and some houses still remain empty.
Those which were flooded are now unsaleable and have blighted the lives of the owners-many house I dealt with were affected by run-off, not flooding and the families main investment-their house-is now worth less or worthless which affects every part of their lives.

My heart goes out to the family of the missing Police Officer.

The copper was unfortunately found dead on the beach. This is a truly sad series of events in what is normally a beautiful part of the country, having holidayed there twice.

All I wish for is no further loss of life. 1 death is too many.
