The play anything is a Pioneer DV575 - excellent value for money when we bought it.

The speakers were in a sale, actually 4 out of 5 were.

I have always had top end TVs though.

BTW we do have a good house alarm, and a neighbour always at home who is ex army!

Let's be honest here Kev, it's only the serious players that would even consider spending more on ONE subwoofer than what most would spend on an ENTIRE system.....hence the ones who pay for the 320kbps MP3 download think they are getting their money's worth.

Just under 4GB of choonz here sitting on a very private server, all of them in FLAC format if you need anything Wink

I ripped my whole collection, encoded to FLAC and the CDs haven't been played for ages now. They all sit on a Linux box and get listened to through a Squeezebox 3. Best gadget I've ever had. (If you use it to feed a decent DAC) Thumbs Up!

Well done for winning an ipod though. I've never paid for mp3's, there are plenty of other sources, plus between us we have a largeish music collection on cd. I prefer to buy the album on solid media in my hand for music i really want to own.

Despite downloading a wide range of music for convenience (eg making my own selection of CDs for the car), must admit that I still prefer the analogue feel of my vinyl (crackles and all!!) than the sometimes too clinical sound of a remastered CD. To my old ears it sounds somehow "warmer". Then again, I am becoming a bit of an old git Thumbs Up!

When commuting on the train, having one of those was brilliant. Light, good battery, excellent screen, converted loads of films and TV shows to watch on the way. Time flew past.

Nano is more for music on the go really, although Omegadoha you could fit a wired fm transmitter for an aux feed into your Bose. Then you will have 8/16/32GB(?) of music Cool

Only problem with a transmitter, is you can pick up interference from other stations that have a stronger signal

I would have to agree with you. Vinyl offers a greater range of depth than CDs. CD sound is a bit more flatter in my opinion, but at the end of the day, they are OK too. Thumbs Up!

What we are up against, IMHO, is that, when producing CDs, the dynamic range is compressed during mixing to cater for the "tastes" of the mass market. (who buy their Hi-Fi gear at the same place as their groceries) Kevin

But youre right, I guess -as a format-Cds do have more sonic potential, its just that it doesnt seem to be much exploited. But seriously, is it a myth about analogue being " warmer "than digital, to my ears it does seem to be the case whether we're talking vinyl vs CD or valve guitar amps vs transistor ones.
