ipods and itunes and all that

Anyone any good on ipods and itunes?

Won an ipod nano in a raffle on Friday. Am I correct in saying that there doesn't seem to be a great amount of music to purchase?

Also can you hook them up to external devices such as car stereos TV's etc?

not sure what its like for your location, but here iTunes will be the death of HMV, you can buy nearly everyone modern song ever made on iTunes, tones of old classics too, their music store is huge! with a lot of tracks being released online FIRST, then going to the shops.

They have standard 3.5mm headphone jacks so output as normal to any AUX input on home/car stero's

Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine

tbh, there's not a lot you can't do with an ipod.
Music, films, podcasts etc...
and that's just from itunes.
I have my ipod touch connected to my car stereo.
Wouldn't be without one now  Thumbs Up!

When commuting on the train, having one of those was brilliant. Light, good battery, excellent screen, converted loads of films and TV shows to watch on the way. Time flew past.

Nano is more for music on the go really, although  Omegadoha you could fit a wired fm transmitter for an aux feed into your Bose. Then you will have 8/16/32GB(?) of music  Cool

More like overpricing will be end of HMV

Tesco are cheap
Play have a better selection
CD Wow are cheap

I would buy a CD I will pay more for SACD or DVD-A, but for downloads, I would pay - nothing - ie free.

They are compressed and CDs sound better.

Also lots of modern music is basically crap

must admit that I use I-tunes quite a bit-tho its mostly to get tracks that Ive already got on vinyl onto CD (I have got one of those players where you put it through your pc and record the vinyl onto your pc and then burn it to cd but its just so time consuming). At 79p theyre not cheap but its convenient and once downloaded you can make up your own playlists to burn to cd etc. The catalogue on I-tunes is quite impressive tho you still cant get The Beatles for eg (or AC/DC apparantly!)

Mrs G has a nano. Its very cute, and so small. But as far car connection goes(i haven't got round to it yet) i dont think i'll bother with an ipod. Modern smartphones have the same functionality and certainly have a bigger screen. I cant justify a touch or i phone on price and the fact The Boy is right, they are sooo gay (there's an app for that!.... Feck off!).

I already have a phone holder and charger in the car i just need an fm transmitter to get it into the head unit which my next phone has already built in (N900 if the networks ever take it on)

So i have the phone, if i add an ipod i'll have to find another mounting point, have another charger in the car, and fit a wired fm emulator/transmitter thing, and have a smaller screen on the device. Why not have it all in one?

Well done for winning an ipod though. I've never paid for mp3's, there are plenty of other sources, plus between us we have a largeish music collection on cd. I prefer to buy the album on solid media in my hand for music i really want to own.

Agreed on all counts. Music downloads are inherently worthless, especially if crippled with DRM. IMHO

Nothing other than lossless compression is suitable for serious listening. I suspect those who buy downloads don't listen seriously to music...

DRM was cracked pretty much since day 1 Kev  Wink

Let's be honest here Kev, it's only the serious players that would even consider spending more on ONE subwoofer than what most would spend on an ENTIRE system.....hence the ones who pay for the 320kbps MP3 download think they are getting their money's worth.

PS

Just under 4GB of choonz here sitting on a very private server, all of them in FLAC format if you need anything  Wink

Definate bargain at £110 for my DVD-V DVD-A SACD CD player - it does mp3 but not interested in those
