We have two log burners and ply them with (free) olive logs. Marvellous wood after a year of seasoning and ecologically friendly.

No such thing as chimney brushes here but they sell "magic" sticks for about £3 that you light in the fire and they burn all the soot in the flues away as if by well magic.

When I was a kid one of my friends lived on a Dales farm. His dad 'cleaned' the chimneys with a 12 bore.  Shocked

Nothing beats a Clearview burner-had various open fires-messy, inefficient and remove heat from room up chimney when not lit, shouldn't really be left if you want to go out-even with a guard...

I tried various wood or multi-fuel burners which were ok, then had a Clearview Stove which was truly amazing.
Mine was fitted with an underfloor air-supply pipe underneath it so no draughts and no negative heatsource effect when not lit-it is a sealed unit so no runny eyes or dust either.

They have a built in raddler so no stoking, they burn so efficiently all that is left is powder which is removed from a sealed drawer under it once a week, the glass stays clean, have micro-adjustable burn so stays in all night so no re-lighting every morning, flue/chimney stays clean, andwhen hot (30 mins to full running temp) will run on 1kg of wood per hour to give out huge heat.  And you can cook on it!

They are expensive at £950-2000 but are one of the best things I have EVER bought-highly recommended.

Google it  Wink  I would never have believed how good they are until I owned one- I will never go back to an open fire  Thumbs Up!
