An awful lot of work goes into preparing a car to that standard (if the ad is to be believed), and it has an awful lot of trick parts (although not actually fitted, by the look of it).

If you're building it to campaign, a C20XE is probably the engine of choice. You would need much deeper pockets to run something unobtainable like a BDA. Engines are a bit too consumable for that IMHO.

Still, one wonders how much that price tag would drop were it a Manta. Undecided

I agree with what you say Kevin, but at that price I would expect more authenticity, not a VX engine which was made years later.
The way the listing reads you have the impression you are looking at a group 4 RS1800,until you get to the bit about engine spec etc. Undecided
would be great fun to drive though,if 25k was pocket change. Thumbs Up!

I agree, if I were buying a classic car, but I would regard it as a "ready to race" car, not a classic (again, if ad is to be believed), which is a little different. You don't worry about authenticity when an engine failure mid-season would bankrupt you and mean no more points, as opposed to a trip to the scrappy to find a Cavalier.

It looks to me as if this effectively a New car and it is a Ford Thumbs Up!  Whatever you may think old fords always command better prices than old Vauxhalls, despite the latter being is shorter supply because of early decay.....

The proof of the puding will be in the eating, he has to sell it yet..... Roll Eyes

When I was about 15, 1990, Mk2 Escorts were still pretty much the car of choice to modify (No Saxo and 206 pap back then).

A mate of mine had 2 and as is the way got into a little circle of like minded Mk 2 customisers, all with their black Revolution 4 spokes, mexico front spoiler and Ghia dials (they had a rev counter).

One day he found out about a rally prepared shell in a garage which amazingly almost backed onto his garden. After a little bit of investigation it was his for £500. It came with all the correct paperwork, strengthened shell, and I remember at the bottom of the windscreen it had a specially pressed panel which allowed for the fitting of a kill switch. Probably had a load more but I was young and cant remember.

He rebuilt it to be a decent fast car, he was only 18 or so and I don't think he would have appriciated what it may become, but a so called 'friend' of his, whilst pi**ed, nicked his keys at a party and stuffed it upside down into a field. Police reckoned if the car wasn't as strong as it was he would have been a goner.

Bet my old mate would be sick if he could see what they (May) be fetching nowadays!!!!

I'm pretty up on the classic car market & for some reason old Fords command higher prices, ie a Capri will make more than a Manta...an Anglia will make more than a Viva, Escort/chevette Cortina/Victor/Mk1 Cav. Despite many folks on here being devout VX fans Classic Fords were better back in the day hence the residual values in todays classic market.
Despite all i've said this seller is either living on Fantasy Island or chancing his arm..I reckon he's a bit of a player & has wasted his listing fee. Roll Eyes

The last MKII i had was a pile of crap. I only bought it because i needed a car, because mine got stolen.
It would cut out at any time it felt like it, once i'd just overtaken an Artic on the A38 when it did it. All i could see was this mahoosive truck right up my chuff flashing its lights & blasting its horn. I was kicking the crap outa the car on the inside.
Then first gear collasped & i had to start off in 2nd.
Changed the box, sold it ASAP & never had another.
I don't think i even included it in Skruntie's Car History Thread. What a shame Grin
