Day 6 and bambi still eludes....
27. Nov 2009 at 12:30

Been sat for a total of 40 hours on my uncle's rather nice but chilly forest and still not seen a single (live) deer to shoot at!  Only one in our party has managed to shoot a young buck and the landowner and I have yet to see one at all!  A lack of snow is not helping although it is below zero here.  Even with thermals, 4 layers of t-shirt, jumper, jacket and over trousers I can only mange 3 hours before getting weak and coming in from the cold....

Well it's opening time again so off I go.....here bambi bambi bambi......!

the nearest thing i do to hunting is fishing, but even then after having enjoyed their sport i return them alive, its a personal choice i guess but personally shooting an animal in the name of sport is one ive never quite understood. Cry Cry

It's a man 'hunter gatherer' thing I think. I love venison but could never get my own!

I used to work with a couple of guys who did shooting, trapping, hunting with dogs and lamping I think you call it. Yes they where both poachers.

Never saw the appeal I am afraid. But then if someone else did not catch/butcher the meat then I imagine a lot more of us would be vegetarians.

I will not judge anyone who does this, I no I could not do it, but then I eat the meat, so does that make me the same as them ?

Ok, a few points:

- I eat what a hunt/fish (putting some fish back is too traumatic for it, mackerel for example)
- I enjoy hunting (or I wouldnt do it)
- I have the hunter/gatherer gene, so what
- If you think what I do is wrong then go to an abattoir and see how the meat you eat is killed.  A lot less humane then the clean shot through the heart/head/neck that I do (I can hit a tennis ball at 200m with an iron sight)
- The deer in the UK is over populated because of a lack of predation and the fact we don't hunt them.  Think about that next time you hit one on the road (that is if you survive) write off your car/end up in hospital/lose a friend.

Bambi is still at large, for now  Roll Eyes Grin Grin Grin

Peace  Thumbs Up!

I agree with the general consensus here... I don't just shoot for fun, I eat what I shoot. There's a difference Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up!

Everything I shoot when out on the land is used, If we don't eat it, the buzzards do, and I don't shoot foxes because they keep the vermin down. Would love to go deer stalking, might do it next year  Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up!
