I just tried to get into my routers setup page... 192.168.1.1 and entered the password and user name. But when i pressed enter, it redirected to some search engine page, with "linksys by cisco" at the top. (its a linksys router) WTF is going on?
This happens on any computer connected to the router, using any browser.
The page im redirected to is: http://websearch.linksys.com/error_redirect_site/get_error_redirect?eg=false&job...

How long is it since you last connected correctly? Have you remembered the correct procedure? Is it <Return> to login or do you have to click a button? Are you sure that's the IP address? I would guess 192.168.1.254 personally.

What browser are you using?

Have you had to configure it to use a proxy server?

If so you probably need to tell it not to use the proxy server settings when accessing 192.168.1.1 (or temporarily tell it to use 'direct connection' while you set up the router and switch it back to your current settings afterwards).

Alternatively something has altered the routing table in the router...................

Dec 2009 at 17:29 I logged in fine the other day, Friday or sat. Yeps its deffo 192.168.1.1. It is asking me for username and password like it does everytime (browsers popup) and to confirm that is press enter or ok. Doing either does the same.

Dec 2009 at 17:33 I would be doing antivirus and spyware scans now. Its possible youve been infected. If that doesnt fix the issue, you may need to do a factory reset on the router and re set it up.

I do these regularly and nothing has come up. But even so that wouldnt affect all computers not being able to access the router. Hmm seems like something has =blanked up inside the router :/

If you haven't changed the default admin password it is possible that your router has been hacked.

I think I read somewhere that some routers could be hacked even after the default password had been changed so it is worth checking if yours is affected and whether there is a firmware update that should be installed.

KillerWatt Ex Member	Re: Networking/Router Help Reply #8 - 07. Dec 2009 at 20:21 Linksys IS Cisco! The fact that the word "websearch" appears in the address bar means the computer in question is infected by malware/spyware (and yes, infections do propogate across networks).

Dec 2009 at 20:35 Try disconnecting the telephone line from the router, and also check your "Hosts" file. Its unlikely your router itself is affected, it is your browser that is being re-directed.

I never said it was the same shit, I simply pointed out that Linksys is owned by Cisco so the original phrase made by the OP of "linksys by cisco" is not of concern (unlike "websearch", which he or she should be concerned about).
