having some isues with my 2002 2.2 cd smeggie
any help would be magic
firstly engine management light came on and only fault was gearbox memory failure is that the ecu
when selecting gears on the auto box all the selection lights light up and car often goes into limp home until re started
i was told it may just be oil level but to be honest it has never leaked
how do you fill the sealed for life box and how much oil does it hold
any help would be fab
ps any good garages around glasgow

Dec 2009 at 15:48 plug is on the drivers side, towards front of the box. The ATF must be level with this plug, on a flat surface with the engine running. If its low, topup with Dextron III. You also need to read the codes, its worth updating your profile with your location, we may have tech2 machines near you to read engine / gearbox codes

Hi Gary

welcome to the forum.

All lights on gear selector or peculiar sequences can be down to the gear selector switch located on the side of the gearbox. The contacts can get dirty and can be cleaned carefully but first when was the oil in the gearbox changed?

Autobox oil comes up very frequently on here and is usually the starting point for curing gearbox anomalies. The oil should be changed maybe every 70k miles. It is a messy job as you have to take both sumps off the gearbox and let it all out. While you are at it change the filter (or perhaps wash it) in the gearbox. Then new gaskets and back on.

Filling is via a small hole on the side of the gearbox and level checking is done via this same hole with the oil hot, run through the gears and the car level. There is no dipstick.

If you do a search on the forum you will find various info - discounts on parts, type and quantity of oil to use and tricks for making the job easier.

Well there is no such code.....however, you can get CAN bus errors that do strange things to the auto box operation when the cam sensor gets tired.

Thats what happened to mine changed sensor and everything been A1 for the past 5000 miles Thumbs Up!

Really need to change ATF fluid but not sure if i could stand the smell Grin

How do you know if your V6 cam sensor is "tired"?! How long do they last? Years/miles.

How do you know if your V6 cam sensor is "tired"?! How long do they last? Years/miles.

V

They last forever on V6, 4 pot cam sensors last around 6/7 ish 100k miles before they will start to go. Crank sensors fairly rock solid on 4 pots.

V6 is the other way around
