heater failure brrrrr
11. Dec 2009 at 18:33

Hi there, I recently got myself a w reg 3.0 mv6 estate which im very pleased with but the heaters wont blow hot!. I bent myself upside down into the drivers side footwell, found the matrix and both pipes are very hot. I also twidled the temp nob on the dash and saw movement on the bits that direct airflow so I'm puzzled as to whats wrong. I had a quick scan through some of the posts here and noticed reference to a hbv? is that a heater bypass valve? if so where is it? Any help would be great

Hi Mickmv6, and welcome. A few folk on here have
had a similar problem and found that the info on the
above link by bates1963 useful in fixing the problem.

If there's plenty of hot coolant in the matrix then I
doubt that the HBV is your problem, but as you have
an MV6 and probably climate control then I don't
know the Vac system layout to be certain. Someone
else on here with the same system will put you
straight.

Best of luck.  Smiley It can't be much fun with no heat in
this weather.   Sad

HI thanks for that link, unfortunately the motor the guy is talking about is working as it should and is opening and closing the flap/vent unless its broken inside.

If you have full climate control, pull the vac pipe of the HBV ... vac = cold, no vac = hot

So, if with the vac pipe off you get hot heat it points to the control side, if with the vac pipe off it is still cold it points to water circulation, either a failed HBV or a blocked heater matrix ...
