Another heater problem

Odd one this ... On startup in the morning the system will always work fine, obviously once the coolant has warmed up, giving plenty of heat.

Intermittently over the past couple of weeks I've had a problem that after switching off, to pop into shops, refuel, whatever.... after restarting I only get cold air.... doing a system reset makes no difference.

Doesn't always happen but is happening more often.

I'm thinking perhaps the HBV is "sticking" internally once warm ... but I can't see why it would stick in the "cold" position as it would have been in the "hot" position when the engine was switched off .. if that makes any sense ... Undecided

Anyone any other ideas ??? Before I rip my hands to bits changing the HBV ??

When I changed the HBV on my current 3.2 it wasn't particularly difficult. Just took the scuttle off, unclipped and pulled the HBV to the offside, no grazed hands etc.

So with hot selected and no vac applied, when you switch the engine off there is no force to move the HBV. When you start the engine and ask for cold, vac is applied to move the HBV.

Unless of course there are springs inside it doing things I know nowt about !! which destroys my theory instantly !! I'm assuming any springs bias it to the no vac hot position.

I guess the answer is to change it and see ... a new HBV is a lot less than a climate panel !!!

Entwood, I have a brand new climate panel still in delivery mode, I bought it to replace the worn out buttons on mine, so it is minus the buttons and would need to be programmed, but if yours is found be Fubared, give me a PM, you can have it for the price of a new HBV Thumbs Up!

I'll go the HBV route first as its probably easier Work list building up now .. HBV Cam cover gaskets Breathers Oil & Oil filter Pollen filter Wiper Blades Fix the damaged wing just need some dry days to coincide with not-working days ..

If you haven't already tried it, why not run it for a few days with HBV vac hose disconnected and plugged.

If the strange behaviour goes away, you'll know that it's control of vac states in the cabin system that's at fault.

I'm not too sure how your particular symptoms could arise w.r.t. solenoid valve misbehaviour or whatever, but it would be a shame to change the HBV and still find the same thing happening.
