so this is my theory, you work for a bloke who has a van and he is banned, you insure it and dont use it cos now you dont work for him and he is running round in it with your policy making the vehicle seem legal (anpr).cancel cancel cancel your open to so much grief, also i didnt think you could insure a vehicle unless its in your name.could be wrong,my theory could be wrong but either way get yourself out of it Wink

Ok so you don't own it and the V5 is not in your name?

Do you pay for insurance for it out of your own pocket to drive it?

If it passes an ANPR van it will be ok as it is 'insured' but the driver is not.

If you have no financial commitments to the van, cancel the policy, unless you still use the van?

i dont know who its insured with. its on the askmid site as legal so he doesnt have to worry unless he gets a pull. i shall sort it in morning.

thanks everyone.

Thought you said you paid for insurance on it?

no my boss paid it. sorry

Then, as I said earlier, your boss is breaking the law.

You want to put a wheel brace across someones barnet who is driving a motor vehicle that has no tie to you whatsoever (other than you being named as an insured driver at one point)?

It isn't registered to you, it's not your's in any way, shape, or form....just WTF are you worrying about dude?

thats what i was asking, if he gets pulled, and has no licence and the police would want to know who the insured driver is and why its in my name if i dont work for him, my boss would get done for letting him drive the car but how would it affect me as im the insured party that doesnt drive it. would it not be seen as some kind of fraud to keep the car on the rd for the banned driver to use.

If the insurance certificate names you as the policy holder it would open a very wide door for the Police to utilise, if the other person was stopped, as to how you knew/did not know who was driving the car, irrespective of who the registered keeper is.  Possibly liable for a cause/permit offence unless the vehicle taken without your permission, if ownership is in any way in doubt, if you follow.

Remember, the registered keeper does not have to neccessarily be the owner....

If your name is in any way linked to the vehicle you should report what's happening. It's not clear to me if your boss is the one driving it or if that's another party.

Either way, if there's any trouble whose details is he going to give if he does get pulled? Someone (the only person) who is insured to drive it perhaps?

So, you're involved whether you like it or not. Best you make your position clear to the Police before anything happens. You only have to suggest that the vehicle might be being driven illegally and that they might like to stop it.

Best that happens before someone gets their pride and joy, or, worse still, child, smashed up by another uninsured scum.

So assuming he isnt banned / ban run out...

he has the vans owner's permission to drive.

Does he have his own car, which may have an insurance policy allowing him to drive other vehicles 3rd party with permission?

seen the bloke in question. his ban has expired but he hasnt bothered to re apply for his licence. the insurance is being cancelled today. so what i have done is wrote a letter saying as from today i am no longer the insured driver and i have informed my x emplyer that i wish my name to be taken off the insurance cover as i am no longer using the van. i have put this in an envelope sealed it, signed across the back where it is sealed and put it in the post to myself. any problems i can give this to the police unopened. and they can both get done for it.
i feel pretty chuffed that i didnt lose my rag like i ususally do  Smiley

not possible, my licence has my pic and my cousin is at my local police station in the robbery squad so they would never get away with it. in all the years ive lived in the areas when ive been stopped i have been asked if i am related to edward and a few of them know me by face now. probably saved me a couple of points in the past  Wink
