It`s nice to know that there are other people out there, whom still 'do'; rather than those who simply watch others doing. Wink

Pulsed-TIG and MMA (arc) welding are my interests......but thankfully, the MIG Welding forum is a 'broad church'. Thumbs Up!

Come on you secretive OOF metalworkers/welders: come out of the closet. Grin

ive been a fabricator and we had a lovely big cebora and then dropped down sizes with other migs cant remember the makes.i made owt from gates,railings,security,machine guarding,refurbed swarf conveyors,refurbed telescopic covers.il admit its a nice skill to have i was shit hot but havent touched a set up for 6 years and tbh i dont miss it,all the fumes and grinding shite the welders forehead and even the best of welders and experienced yer still wake up some nights with the ole it feels like someones thrown a bag of grit in mi eyes

correct if you get the wire feed and the power correct on a decent welder yer can teach anyone to weld in 30 secs Thumbs Up!

Well to be honest i left my welding job in 2003 to become a plumber and regret every minute of it.For a start the money is shit,theres too much red tape,and forever doing courses for this and that,plus in the plumbing trade you never know what time your going to leave the job your on if anything goes wrong,so therefore im going back into welding making gates and railings.Any orders. Grin

I am just about to make a chimnia out of an old propane bottle....

Have been welding loco body sections, steam heat pipes and fabricating some nice chunky brackets (which have now been galvanised) to support a fence on our latest platform development.

Loads of welding on shite bland rover chassis sections.

Some welding on omega exhausts (Lambda bosses and new flexi joints)

I quite enjoy it.

I have my own hobby MIG (a clarke 135) which is pretty good plus have access to Oxy/Acc, ARC and a rather nice Murex 405S with a transmatic 2x2 wire feed unit.

I would ratehr like a TIG unit....but dont know which one to get and there are mixed views on various forums.

Dec 2009 at 13:23 Mig welding is very satisfying, but nothing beats the satisfaction of the old Oxy acetalene gas welding we used to use. I've spent many days of my life trying to get some rusty old heap through an MOT test.
