The public has no say what so ever in these matters, be it europe bull or current policys, every goverment just does what it wants when its in, no matter who is in. They are all the same, so i (personally) am not really interested in these European policys or climate bollox. There is still no real evidence that humans are affecting this climate, and thats its just not natural warming.

So i just get on doing the things i want to do, earning best money i can, and doing things i want to do

..and should that become impossible because of these policies, what then? Roll Eyes

1. Extended power cuts due to cutbacks in new grid capacity (many of our power stations must be decommissioned shortly due to EU regulations and new stations are being hindered by green objections, e.g Kingsnorth).

2. Punitive taxation on air travel to meet carbon reduction targets.

3. Reduced income, if not unemployment, due to high taxation, low GDP, high food and energy inflation - i.e. an economic depression.

All are feasible. Sad

1. Not had a power cut in over a decade, other sources of power will be found even if brought from over the water (be it at a higher cost)

2. Who said anything about flying???

3. The media have hyped this depression out of proportion, i have doubled my basic income in the last 2 years, and in this 'depression' had 3 job offers.

Dec 2009 at 22:36 Large amounts of gas now come from the continent (actually Russia) and boy do we pay for it .... If we get ourselves dependant on others for electricity as well we might as well give up any idea of independance and prosperity at all... we will be screwed even more than we are now ..

No.....forgeting your science me thinks.....that would equate to approx 1.1GW.......Drax for instance generates 3.9GW which would equate to 34164 GWh (if it ran flat out for 1 year which clearly it cant)....or approx 7% of uk needs

Ok fair enough, but we do have the means to bring power from Europe, as mentioned we also bring Gas in too. We should be able to ramp up the power we bring in, while the paperwork is filled for our replacements?

Power transmission on that scale is very costly to setup and takes a long while to develop and get going.

I know that the original cross channel that was bult in the mid 80's cost circa 2billion quid......and was around a 3 year project.

What about those snake water things which failed in the 80's (not due to the tech but some other personal issue iiic)

I remember seeing a more moden version last year, looked impressive.

They sat in the water and the natural movement of the waves generated a constant supply, although we could need quite a few of them Grin

As for Wind farms, stick them up in Scotland Grin
