In Medway it started snowing quite heavy about 22.00 last night.Really strange thing was in the midddle of a snow storm we had "thunder and lightning" ?? not sure what was going on there.

This morning ground is covered with about 8 inches of snow, and yes you guessed it...everything is at a standstill or closed so day in doors today .

4 inches here.

Had to go rescue drunken idiot son at 1 a.m. as last bus failed to show.

Now got to go rescue idiot wife who struggled into her school by bus, only to find it closed.  Headteacher left message on our answering machine about 30 seconds after she left.  I was busy oversleeping at the time.

Other idiot son, the policeman, been stuck on the A14 for last 3 hours.  He can sort himself out!

Dread to think where daughter might be - she has to travel from Lakenheath to Ipswich.  Shouldn't think she's going to get there.

It's laid here, good 2 inches on most of the roads, all roads round by my house are still covered in snow  Thumbs Up!

Is that it? Grin Grin Grin

We've got loads Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up!

Yep thats it after all the warnings, but more on the way though apparently.

Got about 4 inches all over, drifting up to 10 inches in places and more due to fall today Grin Grin

Gotta go and assess the roads now and decide if it's safe to take SWMBO to work Wink Wink

Roads here aren't that bad, been out and got some diesel for the van already, was stuck behind a bloke going less than 10mph up a 40 stretch and the road was clear  Angry Angry

They're bloody awful here... Borderline as to whether I'd drive (and I used to have no choice when doing recovery so not normally bothered by snow!) but should be OK after the first couple of miles Wink Wink

A12 and A14 have people who have been stranded for 12 hours! Shocked Shocked Shocked

Trouble is, I didn't see a single gritter yesterday, although the Brother in Law saw one at 00:30 with a Plough on the front, which then promptly got stuck Shocked Shocked Grin Grin Advice is only to make essential journeys but I have to go out and get some bits so she may as well go into work for a few hours Grin Grin

The maniacs are scrabbling about outside my house.  It's amazing.  I now have two cars abandoned across my drive with about 9 foot between them that I am supposed to be able to drive through!

It took me best part of an hour to get the car out of the drive! Sad Sad Sad

After rescuing the lad last night, I drove in forwards, not thinking that I would need the car today.  Didn't think the wife would be daft enough to go to work without checking to see if the school was open.  After 35 years, I really should have known better. Sad

Omega 3.0 autos don't do backwards in snow.  Lots of sideways, but no backwards.  Lots of elbow grease, assistance from the neighbours, and a bag of sand eventually got me out.  It didn't do the lad's hangover any good, but it was his fault anyway, so I've got no sympathy.

The car is absolutely fine going forwards - handles the snow, slush and ice as well as any car I've had.   Smiley  Pity about backwards.  Sad

Now I'm going to have to go out with the shovel and broom and clear the common part of the drive so the neighbours can get out over all the churned up slush which will undoubtedly turn to ice.  Sad Sad Sad  Still, I suppose the exercise will do me good. Sad Sad Sad

I tell ya, they're pathetic, we got a little bit of snow and there issuing severe weather warnings for what we used to call a bit of snow. Yeah we got snow it was bad not that bad but they're making it to be much worse than it is. Watching the news bought this moan on by the way  Grin

aye, doesnt take much to cause chaos.

yes I know tyres used to be thinner, along with far less traffic made driving easier, but even so...

Exactly it's all way over dramatic. One thing that does annoy me though, had a P-reg Rover stuck up my arse this morning on quite a slippery road everyone apart from him was leaving a safe distance between them and the car in front. Idiots like that are the ones that cause the problems  Angry

At least I've gained some satisfaction from the snow.  I watched the rubbish truck get stuck on the slight hill up to our place.  He was having as much trouble as I did earlier.  Unfortunately, it wasn't being driven by the usual bloke, an intolerably boorish elderly Mitchell-brother look-alike - I'd have really enjoyed seeing him in trouble. Smiley Smiley Smiley

What really astonished me was the sight of the two epsilon-minus semi-morons who do the actual bin emptying playing snowballs.  I mean, it was one o'clock, and they should have been (bin?) there at half seven.  You'd have thought they'd seen enough snow... Smiley Smiley Smiley

But at least I've now succeeded in backing the car in.  Thanks to the magnificent rearward visibility provided to the shorter driver by the Vauxhall Omega, I managed to avoid the all the bits of driveway I'd cleared  Angry Angry Angry.  Idiot son found it most amusing for some reason Sad
