Petrol in a Diesel

Well had the Focus TDI just over a month wife tells me to take it today as it needs fuel, like a t***er i go and put petrol in, only 15 quids like.

Leaves petrol station gets about a mile runs like crap, switches engine off realises what ive done then get mate to tow me back to office.

Whats the next step guys and have i done any long term damage.?

Dec 2009 at 14:46 Father in law did it several times too an escort van, pumped it out, and refilled with diesel and was always ok. the petrol / diesel mix was fed a bit at a time into his v6 cav....it didnt complain either

Dec 2009 at 14:57 I'd second that, drain it off and refill with diesel, personally though I'd chuck it, diesel oil in the petrol in any quantity might foul the plugs, burnt carbon in the head, to feed it in in little enough amounts to not make any difference you might as well throw it...just my twopenneth....twopenneth from Kenneth.

Dec 2009 at 14:57 I would undo the fuel line near the fuel filter and turn the ignition on, you'll need a few containers though

£15.00 is just under 3 gallon. Fill it right up it with diesel. It'll be ok. Truckers used to mix a gallon or so in their diesel tanks in winter to help stop it waxing. We don't have that problem nowadays

Dec 2009 at 16:02 Had a look at that ken cheers, Think im going witht the consensus and brimming it with diesel and giving it a good blast through, shes due a service in the next couple of weeks so will change all the filters then. Might even put some injector cleaner through it if you think it might help?

Dec 2009 at 16:15 Up to you, but the concemtration is much higher in your focus fuel tank than these truckers mentioned, a gallon or so in a tank holding 50 to 100 gallons, as against your 3 gallons in a tank that holds about 12 to 15 gallons! I'd drain it.

If it were mine I'd brim it... Don't bother with injector cleaner though... The petrol will do that Wink

Be realistic... £15 is less than 3 Gallons at most places... The tank will be 11 Gal (At a guess) so brim it, run down a bit, brim it again and keep repeating for about £30 or so. It may be a little rough for the first one but will improve. Oh... And it'ss probably smoke like a 100/day smoker for a short while Roll Eyes

But then don't all smelly oil burners Lips Sealed
