The new ID card, introduced in Manchester, can be used instead of a passport across Europe - but the travel firm said it did not know this.

You don't need a passport these days for Europe, i had house mates from Portugal at Uni, they had those type of ID cards, never used a passport....

And considering the renew costs for them, i am not surprised he used it.

The only plonkers there, are the morons who did not know it was valid

Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine

Big Brother will be watching you ........ http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8175139.stm
Dave Page, from the organisation, said: "Once you are on that database, you can never come off it.

"From the moment you're registered you'll have to tell the authorities of any change in your circumstances for the rest of your life - and pay whatever fees they ask for the 'service'.

"You'll never know who's looking at your details. It won't protect our safety. It won't be convenient - except for Whitehall. This scheme is an expensive and dangerous con."

Quite so Andy.

Yet another example of how botched, hashed-up, re-heated and generally messed-about-with legislation from the hells kitchen of our present government holds the unsavoury potential for consequences far beyond the pain in the arse that most will experience after falling victim to it.

Hmm brand new, about to be cancelled, you need to inform big brother (1984 version) of any changes, or get £1000 fine.

I'd rather have a passport.

Were Neanderthals Libertarians?

Happy to sit on another database to be lost?

What is actually wrong with the passport?

Are you happy to have to inform the IPS (I think) every time, you change your circumstances, or get a large fine?

It will get cancelled - this isn't the war time, it is just nulab control freakery.

And it will cost more than both new aircraft carriers to implement.

I KNOW which is better for our security.

It did give me a good laugh - someone believed waquie jaquies male cow poo.

Since I won't get one regardless - won't bother me. As in prepared to go all the way, like quite a few thousand other people.

Might run one off on the inkjet - who shall I be?

We are already on 1000's of DB's - Tesco (with or without clubcard) Nectar cards and so on, so the goverment already knows what i buy for lunch, where i go, and when. They know my exact movements in London (Oyster) - So whats one more DB?

Do we really need a huge book with stamps to take on holiday? Paper license has been updated to plastic, can't see why not passport.

In reality circumstances don't change that often, things they want to know like address, job, don't change that much. You already have to tell TV people, Gas/Leccy, Council, Bank, Credit cards, whats one more to call?

It will get pushed through no matter what it costs i feel, many countries in Europe already have such a system.

You don't have to tell any of those.  And what's this "huge book" you're talking about?
Don't forget to pull the chain after you. Grin

We have a choice with Nectar and Tesco.

And none of the utilities threaten you with £1000

Not really, not unless you pay cash with everything. Tesco, BP and so on, will log card numbers with transactions, they know what pump you used, so they can take your car reg too.

They know what car you used, how far you went, and who paid.

Yes you don't have to tell the leccy companies if you move, but i think you would want leccy at your new house....

Passport is a huge book when you think about it. Compared to driving license. Its about the only paper work you need to really take on holiday

Ahhh the truth comes out.

You started this thread about a bloke, acting 100% legally and trying to travel with the correct legal documents was wrongly denied access to travel, and for some unknown reason, calling him an idiot  Shocked

When all you really wanted to do was rant about ID cards, all becomes clear.

He is an idiot for buying one in the first place - want to travel do what everyone else wants - use a passport.
