A Curious Question!!!
23. Dec 2009 at 10:16

I know the answer is out there somewhere so here goes.
I am looking for a 2.5 TD with the BMW engine, bulletproof, I am told, unless you folks know different.
What is the last year they were made? I have seen a N Reg one but none later than that.
Was N Reg the last of them then?

No, carried on much later than that.

I dont know exactly when they stopped, but sure at least in 2000 they were still using them

Facelifts on 2000 plate are the last ones, 2001 Vx's own 2.2 DTi was fitted.

Seen a few on X plates, never seen a Y plate one....

Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine

Up to and including 2000, 2001 on used the Vauxhall 2.2DTi in UK, and BMW 2.5 common rail Y25DT in Europe.

The 2.5TD is a reasonable engine if its been well maintained (it had a 4.5k max service interval that many owners ignored). It does have a habit of letting go quite spectacularly otherwise.

In Omega form, its detuned to around 120bhp.  Easy enough to rechip back to BMW 150bhp spec, but if its an auto, well chew the gearbox to bits in a few hundred miles.  The age-old BMW issue around cooling is also a problem - these engines tend to silt up rads after 120k or so. Like most BMW engines, the heads are prone to cracking if they overheat.
