Very true, however you'd think your paymasters would have realised by now that the + boxes they provide are nothing short of shit....and that replacing them for something that actually works (as well as providing slightly more features than what could be expected from a 30 year old VCR) would be a lot more beneficial to them in the long run.

Is it a HD or standard +?

HD - Has to be Sata, use software called 'CopyPlus'

http://www.skycopyplus.co.uk/ - To format it so the box will see it, 1TB's work well.

Normal + boxes are IDE, less than 500GB will drop straight in, no issues, if you want above 500gb, then you need to use that software

On a slightly serious note .... and I'm FREESAT not SKY

What is the idea behind upgrading to a maoosive HDD ???

We've got a Humax HD, no idea what size HD it is .. but is less than 25% used at the moment ...

You record something, you watch it, you delete it.

As you can't transfer from HDD to DVD, if you like what you watch and wish to keep a copy ... USENET, download and burn ...

works for me ...

I work 3 days on 3 days off, so i can't watch some stuff straight away, 160gb has been totally fine, never really filled it up.

I want to be able to store some series in bulk and a few films from the box office

Hmmm -- that Anytime TV is a PITA -- even if you disable it the disc space isn't free to use Sad

I am the only one who used to be able to move in there, but since we had the government grant thingy, we had insulation put in thats about 7 feet deep. I won't be going in there!

No I didn't know about the 400GB models, although having had a Dreambox that's wearing just under 1TB (usable) for almost the last year, the prospect of having a box where nowhere near the 400GB is going to be available doesn't (unsurprisingly) excite me.

You can stick up for Maxwell as much as you like T...simple fact is they used shit hardware from day 1...and you admitting it's all been done "in house" for the last 6 months and the best they can come up with is 400GB with the network & USB ports still disabled...........pffft, nursery school mate....take on someone that knows what the public want.

i hardly watch adverts now, take Road Wars on Sky1HD, i'll start watching it, first advert break, pause, go and sort dinner get it cooking, grab a beer, come back, fast forward adverts, second ad break, check on dinner, maybe quick OOF, fast forward again.

Often if i see something i like to watch, i'll record it, then go do some else on purpose to miss the adverts so i can come back and fast forward them

Mine is an Amstrad HD, HD was full in a fortnight, I keep 30/35% free for daily recording till I catch up. I record a few films from the film channels overnight, if they are B/W or look crap they are deleted within the 1st 5 mins.

But yes, I have kept the latest TG's and American Chopper stored on the drive, plus todays TV to catch up on and a few films yet to watch, might keep for viewing over xmas if Sky is crap.

My brother offered me his old Sky Plus box, so if I get the Sky freeview card than day to day TV can be recorded in bulk on that as HD is not essential for that. Dunno the max HD size on them though.
