Hi guys
Guess this is an easy one...but I would like to do it properly without damaging anything. Cheesy

How do I exchange an old Thermosat (not the housing) with a new one? Do I need a gasket? Do I need grease? Do I need any sealant?

I have a new thermostat with two thin rubber rings, a silver foil containing greases...and a jubliee ring.

I understand collant will be lost when I remove the hose connecting it to the top of the rad, but can it be collected in a container and reused?

Replaced mine a few weeks back, put a bowl under the engine to catch most of the coolent, take the hoses off remove the housing swap the 'stat put it back togeather using the new rubber seal, I used a bit of liquid gasket as well just to be safe. I checked the coolent I collected was free from contaminates and poured it back in, run engine upto temp and top up coolent when any air has worked its way out.

What is the grease for that came with the new stat? Silly question I know, but I've never replaced a stat before on my own.

Feb 2010 at 22:01 Replaced the thermostat today and also put new coolant in, I didn't bother saving the old coolant that came out when the old stat was removed. Result is HEAT in cab once more. So thank you guys for all your help. MOT is supposed to be two weeks from now..
