But this time it stays on all the time, any quick checks I can do in the dark  Roll Eyes Need to be out by 8pm but dont fancy the battery draining while Im out driving in the lanes Shocked Im really going off Syd Cry Cry

I have tested the alternator and think the replacement has now died too. Have I just been unlucky or could there be something causing them to fail Huh This time it is a bit different as I charge battery over night, run kids to school  ( 15miles ) all ok, then car will turn off and re start. But if I leave the battery connected within 2 hours battery it is then dead. What would cause it to drain. I also have the old one I took off, could this be re conditioned Undecided Id hoped to sell Syd but Im sure he knows Shocked as everytime Im ready to place the ad something else fails and I have to delay selling him Cheesy

Sounds to me like a rectifier has failed in the alternator and this is draining the battery when parked up. You might be able to replace just the diode pack, I suppose.

I would take the old alternator to an auto electrical specialist. They will probably be able to repair or exchange it. Changes are just fitting a new diode pack or regulator.

More importantly they should be able to test it afterwards to ensure it is 100%. Thumbs Up!
