Irmscher steering wheel and gear knob 10. Feb 2010 at 11:26 Hi guys i want to remove my irmsher steering wheel and gear knob from my elite saloon to my new elite estate has anyone any idea how to get gear knob off ? Also do i need to disconnect the battery or anything to remove airbag and steering wheel ?

Feb 2010 at 12:03 ALWAYS disconnect the battery when moving/replacing airbags then AFTER replacing airbag re-connect battery otherwise you will need a Tech 2 to reset your dahboard light.Also allow time for the airbag to de-activate before moving it(an hour is good).Hope that helps.

Feb 2010 at 12:09 AN hour is good but 5-10 minutes is plenty. Lift the leather gaitor on the gearstick there should be a grub screw to loosen to get the knob off

Feb 2010 at 13:35 Don`t think there is one. Gear knob IIRC is a pressure fit. Seem to recall someone a while back destroying the gearknob in an attempt to remove it

To remove the original nob you have to hack saw the plastic nob off but the irmscher is held on by a collarthat is held in place on the shaft by a small grub screw.

The irmscher is easy to remove by unscrewing the wood bit and then remove the collar.
Then you have the problem of what to put on there. Original is not an option. Roll Eyes
