Feb 2010 at 21:20 Is there any way to tell if it needs replaced i just bought the car and was told that the cam belt was changed 10,000 miles ago but i've no proof of that, so is this the same thing as a timing belt?

Feb 2010 at 21:22 Yes, this is the timing belt that drives the cams...hence cam belt and timing belt are the same. Key thing to change is the idlers and tensioner....not the belt as it is these that fail

Yes, the cam belt is the timing belt. If you have no physical proof of it being changed (is there a paper sticker on the front timing cover with the details of change on it?) then it comes down to how much bottle you have as to whether to leave it on trust or change it unfortunately Sad

Don't forget, it is also good policy to change the water pump at the same time as the belt. Replacement interval is 4 years or 40,000 miles whichever is sooner. Have a look through the 'Maintenance Guide' section (there are 10 pages or more so best look in the index first for 2.2 cambelt change (same as 2.0ltr) HTH Thumbs Up!
