alternator repair
11. Feb 2010 at 16:51

I changed my alternator just before xmas and that has now died ( it wasnt a new one ) so Im trying to fix the original one as described in the maintenance section. Mine looks a bit different but not that much. There is reference to the brush/regulator pack, how do I know if it is that Huh and where do I get replacement from Huh the brushes do look very worn down but again not sure what they look like new Huh

...
looks like black sealant on the other side?
...

also where is my connection from the brush/regultor module to 0V is via the securing screws, the positive supply is via a spring contact
as is suggested could need cleaning. Any help  Undecided

The battery light came on while driving and battery drains if left connected. Same symptoms as before xmas. I replaced earth wires etc the first time hoping it was that but ended up changing alternator. But does seem funny it has only lasted a few weeks before going again Huh the alternator I put in came from an oofer but I have no idea how good that was Undecided

If I was sure that the brushes were shorter than minimum spec (?), I'd be tempted to peel off the sealant from the end of the bit that holds the brushes, and then see if you can remove them.  Then try e.g. a set of Vacuum-cleaner brushes for size.  They file down v. easily if oversize in any dimension.

Edit: Or get a new reg. if that really isn't sealant.  Grin

The valeo part number takes you to here, via google, but they have no stock just now:

Not to worry, its always a risk  Thumbs Up! Funny thing is by the time I had got lost in London chasing Daz around and then getting fine for congestion Zone, that alternator cost me more than a brand new one Grin Grin Grin Grin Will take this one to auto place and exchange it for one of theirs I think. Unless I can get another one somewhere else tomorrow. I want to sell Syd but he obviously doesnt want me to part with him or leave OOF Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
