Cleanliness is close to godliness

....and removes the need to take engines apart again!

Changed a thermostat for a member on here last night as it was stuck open.

Now this particular power plant has a checkered history as mentioned on a previous thread as the engine should be a 2.6 but, it certainly has pre 98 2.5 heads fitted!

Anyway, having removed the offending stat, it became quite clear why the stat was faulty.

...

...

You can see a huge length of sealant stuck in the stat........

So, let this be a lesson to all.....excessive use of sealant is not good and cleanliness is essential!

i just used a small dab of grease on the o-ring when I did the stat on the 3.0, that sealant almost looks like black cam cover sealant?

Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine

I suspect it was cam cover sealent.....the trick with sealent is to just use a wipe of the stuff.....not so much that it ouzes out when compressed into some huge additional O ring!

wonder if they thought it needed it, the o-ring i got with our kit was quite thin, and did not fully fit depth / width of the grove on the stat, its been watertight though  Undecided

A shame, especially as it looked like a decent stat.
So, inappropriate use of (excessive) sealant and a need to do the whole job again, plus stat and a/freeze ...
Still, not sure why 'that' bolt got it's name.

-Must change my sig to 85° !

I reckon an engine is only clean enough to reassemble if you'd be confident licking the bits.
