Just a quick question...

Used to own a "normal" Cherokee years ago, and liked it (comfortable on motorways, could drive over a ploughed field (and yep - I proved it once - but that's a different story for a different day!) and a great tow-car), but it was a diesel - yep, the VM diseaseal with the 4 seperate cylinder heads.  One of the heads cracked once and needed replacement - so the other 3 had to be skimmed with the replacement one, and it was never the same after that

Other than that, it was great - had every extra imaginable, and there was no job (cylinder head aside) that you couldn't do with any tools more complex than a 1/4" and a 1/2" socket, and a hammer 

I've been looking lately at the older (up to 1999) and newer (1999 - 2004) Grand Cherokee's, the petrols (4.0 older, and either 4.0 or 4.7V8 newer), particularly with LPG conversions.

They seem rediculously low priced at the mo - circa £1.5k for the older, and £3k plus for the newer - and am quite tempted...

I was wondering whether or not anybody on here had experience of owning a Grand Cherokee, good or bad?  Any info would be greatfully received 

easily rust though, hear ones just a few years old needing a bit of welding for MOT

Fair comment indeed - have heard similar myself.  But our last un was 12yrs old when we got it - rock solid underneath, not a mark on it.  It's last and only owner used to clean underneath on a regular basis.
So it's defo a case of looking for one thats been well looked after 

My father has a 2006 '06' Grand Cherokee 5.7 V8 hemi. He likes it, I've driven it enough times to get a feeling for it. Some interior parts are plasticy, the handbrake can be shaken from side to side, and it moves by 4 or 5 cms. Very brisk, although the auto gearbox takes some time getting used to ,especially in reverse. In most auto's they creep, but in reverse this doesn't, you have to touch the pedal lightly...but it suddenly shoots off. It takes practice, never come across another auto that does this.
It was very cheap compared to others, not a bad car at all really. Does need frequent services.
