[WANTED] Heated seat pads
01. Jul 2010 at 18:57

Hi there!

I'm looking for heated pads for my driver leather seat (LHD!, but it doesn't matter I think...), the two parts, only genuine GM parts, not aftermarket ones... Used or not.
Can anyone help me?

Thanks!

Dany......

Like hens teeth to obtain, seen some on Ebay for the same price as a s/h drivers seat!!

absolute swine to fit, mate. tried and gave up, as stiched in well, need to completely strip seat to fit, even worse if its leather seats, too. Specialist company in the same trading estate as me will do job, but want silly money to do it (and they make leather car seats for a living!!)
But if you MUST have it done, they are TRANSCAL in marsh lane, Easton-in-Gordano, Bristol BS20 0NH, or will negotiate for you/on your behalf if needed.

I have asked my Opel local dealer today, I can have only the pads, the two pieces separatly. But the price is 170 Euros for the two parts...

For the placement, I know the pads are stitched with the leather, but I can do it. I have done the rear seats already, my father is dressmaker, and we have a dressmaking workshop and a leather machine. So the fitting is not a problem for me, I have already done this job before Wink

So is it possible to find these heated pads cheaper than my Opel dealer?

170 Euro sounds cheaper that I would have thought. Have you tried scrapyards over there? Remember they don't have to come from leather seats.

I wouldn't bother with OE heat pads.
Waeco ones are much better made and once you have the covers off, a doddle to fit.
I used to be an auto trimmer and most OE seat pads are crap compared to Weaco ones.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WAECO-HEATED-SEAT-KIT-RETRO-FIT-KIT-2-SEATS-/370371745404?...
Thumbs Up!

The only thing to really watch out for is placing the wiring where it can get caught in the seat workings.

170 Euros? You think it's cheap?? It's without fitting costs (I will do that fortunately!), and without VAT of course... For one seat!! I think it's a bit exaggerated for a simple cushions that burn all time...!

Pedro, Do you think it's possible the waeco ones works with the originals switches on the dashboard?

Yes - just splice the Weaco wires into the seat loom.
One other thing - buy some silicon spray to spray the foam before refitting the covers. Thumbs Up!
You won't believe how much easier that makes the job!

Silicon instead stitching with the leather? Anyway I have to "de-sewing" to remove the old pads... No?

But if you tell me the Waeco pads works with the Omega switches (1-5 regulation) and if they have the same size that the GM ones, I'll buy this pack! Moreover, it's very cheap, I have found it on German Ebay for 40 Euros, for the both front seats!!!

I have visited the official website and this is very interesting too Tongue

Spray the silicon onto the foam when you put the covers back -  this helps to get the leather covers back to where they need to be, otherwise it can be a bitch of a job. Gives you some "slideability".
You don't have to un-stitch the leather to remove the old pads, just cut out as much of the pads as possible, leaving the stitching in place. As long as you're careful, and don't leave too much of the old pad on the cover, everything will be fine.
Leave 4-5mm of pad near the stitch lines, this should be fine.
The wiring - splice the pad wires into the standard seat wiring, so you can still use the standard plugs.

---------------\/-------------------
                    ------

Top line is leather, V is the stitching, bottom line is what's left of the pad after you've cut it out.
Not easy to describe, but hope you get the picture!

I never said they were cheap, just cheaper than I would have thought!  I also suggested a scrapyard. The kit seems to be "a lot cheaper than I would have expected", everything included. (I would still go the scrapyard route personally though).

The pads come always with the complete seats, so I don't think we can find that in a scrapyard... But we never know Smiley

Anyway I will check the seat later, I have now another bigger problem... The car won't start!!!! Battery OK... I just hope it's not the fuel pump... But they are the same symptoms...

Many scrapyards have seats that are too worn or ripped, these are sold cheaply. Best of luck with you starting problem.
