Alternator Repair/replace?
08. Jul 2010 at 14:01

Thanks to very quick replies it qappears my alternator in on it's way out due to making a horrid whineing dental drill type noise through the stereo!

Can a v6 be Alt be repaired when this starts or its it a straight replacement jobbie?

Anyone know how much for a new one?

Hmmm....not convinced....is the battery charging ok?

Any sign of the charge light being on?

Any bolt on bits or additions to the car?

Are the 0V connections all ok?

Had my 2.5 V6 alternator bearings replaced by Lucas in 2003 for £100.00. At the time it was a lot cheaper than a replacement from a main dealer.

This is thread in question, but dubious about reference to interfering with TV's!  Huh

If is an alternator issue, would the problem not also occur when there is high load on it, like heated rear screen or heated seats on?

Edit, helps if include link....

Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine

I was quite happy at the time compared to dealer quote of £500 to supply new and fit.

Well to expand it appears to be charging ok as far as I can tell, the battery was replaced recently at the end of it's 2 year warranty and when the factor tested it he said it was defo the battery.

TBH I am advised to check the earths and have not done so as yet, so may be jumping the gun a bit.

Lol, semantics I know but......your earth will be a ground spike somewhere and related to your house wiring, your chassis ground or 0V connection will be on your car  Thumbs Up!
