just come across a full BOSE speaker and amp set for £15 - thought I'd get it fitted to see what it sounds like.

The latest car has a cdr2005 just jammed in the dash - I've never bothered getting it decoded.

CDR2005 does not have a bose config. It will work, but will be difficult to control at low volume, distort at high volume, have the wrong frequency response, and risk damage.

Be aware, not all CCR2006 are bose configurable either.

In Omegas, your choises are:

Single DIN
CCR800
CCRT700 (needs ccrt display)

Double DIN
CCR2006 (only a minority though!)
Possibly CCRT2007/8 (need ccrt display)
NCDC range (need GID/CID)

Bose is worth persuing over the stock set up imo. I've never heard a better stock in car system at proper volume levels, it does sound good, with zero distortion when flat out. However, at lower, while talking/passenger asleep type levels it lacks depth, as of it needs a loudness button or similar to bring the base up.

People in the ice trade detest bose for some reason, no idea why....

so, you're saying that CCR800 & CCRT700 are both single DIN.

what's a "NCDC" ?

being as I don't know what some of this stuff is, then can you tell me what I do want :-

must be a "standard" Vx double-DIN stereo
must NOT have either telephone or sat-nav, even if I don't use it - all those extra buttons on the dash will seriously annoy me.
don't care if the upper display doesn't work
and must be able to work with BOSE

what actually is the difference between a BOSE-enabled stereo and one that isn't ?

Bose works on a differant amps/ohms, whatever it is, to every other head unit known to man.... and being concidered top end in the omega range, will come with all the other stuff you dont want.

i would think doublecdin with bose would mean ncdc 2013 head unit, which has nav, but nav slot xan be used to play a cd as well as the 4 disc changer. It has phone function via adding blutooth car kit which works well, better than hands free on 3.  Wink but does not have phone telematics like my ncdc 2015 which fills the glove box.....suspect ncdc head units will have far too many buttons

not familiar with the other head units tbh, others will advise i am sure.

Bose amplifier is fed from the speaker outputs on the head unit, but not at normal speaker levels. Bose configuration takes the levels down hence a non-bose head unit will overdrive the amplifier unless the volume is only a notch or two above minimum.

CCR2006 sounds like your best bet if you want a basic head unit that does Bose.

Failing that, I've been meaning to have a play with a Bose setup to see if it's feasible to interface it to other head units. Perhaps this would be a good opportunity?

I'm up for that.

if it's just a voltage thing, then surely it must be easy for a man of your talents.

now have spare amp if you need it to have a play, but surely it would be best to have an interface box that goes in between head unit and amp
