Headlamp wattage
03. Nov 2010 at 10:48

Hi guys

I'm running common or garden H1 Halogen filaments and was wondering if I'd get any significant improvement to the light output if I were to change from 55w to 65w in the dipped beams.

On the downside, would the lamp enclosures be able to cope with extra heat? And would the additional current draw mess up the electronics?

Cheers,
Gaz

Seconded. Anything brighter that standard bulbs are illegal for road use anyway.

I picked a pair up online for about £17 - they're brilliant (sorry about the pun)! Thanks for the suggestion.

One thing that changing to decent headlights has highlighted (sorry again!) is that my offside beam seems to be set slightly lower than the nearside one.

I've looked for the adjuster but can't find it. How can I tweak it up slightly?

I have used higher wattage bulbs upto 130w and no difference at all.  At the moment im using the halfords excellence bulbs (only as they were bogof) and noticed a decent improvement but next time will be going for the nightbreakers or hid kit

Oh yeah!! D'oh!! (In my defence, I was looking in the engine bay at the rear of the lamp assembly!)

I located the adjusters as ringed in the photo but, when I turn them, they just rotate uselessly! Am I missing something else that is blindingly obvious?

Defo recommend them! They've made a noticeable improvement.

If memory serves they are a VERY fine thread and take many revolutions to achieve any large movement.

Sad

In that case, I'll have another go. Don't suppose you can remember which one is up/down and which is left/right?
