Anyway, I digress - can't argue with the price of the GM oil on the trade club, for sure.

The synthetic 5w30 is good stuff too, and about 60 odd quid for 20L IIRC. Worth a try if you can live with a 30 weight oil.

Kevin

I thought that 5w30 was the current recommendation from GM these days?

I think Kevin may have been referring to me and my 'other car' when he said 'if you can live with' Smiley

Yep, the 5w30 is indeed the recommendation for the later Omegas on 20k service schedules (although I'd never let any car run that long on any oil) Grin.

£20 for 5l retail at local stealers. Half what halfrauds ask for castrol. Shocked

Just serviced the Vectra, £55 for oil, plugs, sump washer, oil, air, pollen and fuel filters. No point buying non gm bits at that price Thumbs Up!

more like double that! It's about £31 retail for 10/40, 5/30 is more expensive

Yep, I nearly bought some from a dealer that didn't do trade club once. When they told me the price of just 5L of the 5w30 I made a swift about turn and beat a hasty retreat. Shocked

On trade club it does take some beating, though.

Thought as much, just remembered a previous post from some time ago.

Agree that I wouldn't let a car run 20k miles between oil changes.  As I only do 5-6k miles a year it gets done annually irrespective.

I should say, of course, no problem running these engines on the 10w40 either as long as oil change intervals are appropriate.

Indeed - the MR2 gets fully synth from Opie, changed every 6k and/or after an extended session on track .. but it sees a hard life given it's putting out anywhere between 50 and 100% more power than standard (depending on how far the red mist descendswick gets turned up) with an oil-cooled plain bearing turbo Smiley

I dont like to leave mine in that long - as soon as it starts to darken, time to change Smiley
