Unlikely to be anything you have done though.

The last two that I've seen on ebay that would fit mine (with 321 as last set of numbers) have been priced at £40 and £50 plus postage costs (usually a tenner or so).

Bearing in mind if yours works then I'd come down to Northants to fit it into mine and see if we can get the flaming thing to work and if - after 3 changers - then it has to be something else amiss with my system.

EDIT:
Both the unit that came with my car (presumably the original) and the replacement unit I purchased have had final digits reading 321 of the 10-digit sequence on the side label. Recently I noted on a parts website

that their listing for the CCRT700 reads 320 as the final digits.

Is anyone able to clarify this please in case I've bought the wrong model based on an incorrect model being fitted to the car prior to my ownership? The car is a 1999 mini-facelift (on V-plate) 3.0 Elite saloon auto.

There are these that I can see but nothing seems to be 10-digits:

No: 90 566 805 (rear label)

GM1700X1015985 (stamped into side casing)

S30880-S1000-A100-1 (on Siemens label)

There are also three numbers under barcodes which look way longer than 10 digits.

These are not, I feel, the right numbers - where else should I be looking?

Dave - these are indeed the numbers I have on both CDCs - my replacement from ebay and the one that came with the car.

I also noticed in FAQ section:

"The units have a two digit ID on them as follows:

FA - Suitable for all radios that do no have Phone function

FC - Only suitable for radios with phone function (i.e. CCRT700) "

Given that I have the latter arrangement, I would be looking for FC code I imagine... however the replacement model has FD as does the original that came with the vehicle and is listed on the CarPass (presumably the original Vx item when new).

Thank you Dave DND for all your help in this matter. A further complication - that I don't need - is that the ebay seller has refused a refund for the defective CDC that I purchased from them. I am extremely reluctant to buy another one in case the same occurs.

An unrelated straw - as in camel's back - is that my new battery has now died... Having not used the car over Christmas (nowhere to go really!) and very little during the snow and ice preceding that I now find that it won't start after probably no more than a fortnight's non-use. Have to say my previous car (Cougar V6) remained unused/unstarted for months at a time - literally - and would always fire up when needed.

Naturally I'm not going to buy another battery but once the weather improves - about February probably - then I'll wash and polish the car and advertise on ebay and a few other classified sites. I don't for one moment expect to make back anywhere near the £1300 I paid so will be embarking upon banger territory no doubt (see below).

These niggles - CD changer, driver's non-heated seat, battery draining when left - are things I don't need and given the cost of the last service and £80 on petrol for a trip to Essex  this car has become far more costly than I expected. What I need is a car that needs no work doing and simply needs cleaning and filling with petrol every three months - so it'll probably be a toss up between Lego or Toyota...
