18. Dec 2010 at 23:52

guys, cant describe the actual light that comes on in my car, is there an image on here and i can show you which one it is?
the light in question comes on after ive been driving for about 10 minutes, then goes off after about 1 or 2 minutes, then other times it doesnt come on at all, should i be worried?

Picture of an engine? If so, paperclip it.

I think all other orange ones have letters written on it?

That won't be possible for a couple of days - nobody in a 2WD car will make it up or down 'Brackley Mountain'

The orange symbol looks like a sort of tap Shocked

i think its next to the TC symbol on the right

it hasn't come on for 2 days and is very intermittent

The manual is for a later car, but most of the warning lamps are the same.

OH BUGGER!
My fault is the middle symptom
should i not drive it?
it only had a new exhaust and cats about 2 years ago
i hardly use the bloody thing

Exhaust emission
Control indicator lights up when ignition is
switched on. Goes out  shortly after engine
starts.

If it lights up when the engine is running:
Fault in the emission control system. The
permissible emission limits may be exceeded.
Consult  a Vauxhal l Dealership immediately.

If  it flashes when the engine is running:
Fault  which may damage  the catalytic
converter – see page 150.
Consult a Vauxhall
Dealership immediately

yet again you are running around like a head less chicken!

We have gone from, "light looks like a tap" to "My fault is the middle symptom"  Roll Eyes

Have you actually done a paperclip test?

Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine

Wayne - you car does not have an emmissions light - on the 2.5 (and 3.0), that symbol is actually the Engine Management light.

This means the engine ECU has detected a fault.

Look in the Maintenence Guides Index for Paperclip test, and post up results Thumbs Up!

And at the moment, don't panic, just post up the results of that test Smiley - we'll let you know when its time to panic Grin

Must be contagious as I have had eml come on and off for most of the day.

I did a paperclip read and it came up as "89" which I am assuming is the n/s lambda sensor possible playing up...may be a loose wire or the sensor is on its way out.

I do have a spare lamba so when can get under car in dry will get them swopped over as another 4-6 inches of snow has fallen today.

Strange thing is car is running fine with no hesitation or uneven tick over so not much to worry about ...I hope.

Do the clip test wayne...you may find a similar problem as mine.
