Not STarting
04. Jan 2011 at 12:09

Hi Folks - I need some urgent help please as my missus needs her car desperately for Thursday. Car turns over fine on the key and when I have got it started it seems to run perfectly but the bloody thing just will not start. Got it going eventually but took about 15 mins of cranking over. I am going to check the codes tonight to see if anything has cropped up but the EML has never come on so I assume (possibly wrongly) that a fault won't be recorded. If anyone could point me in a vague direction of what could be main contenders that would be really appreciated!

Many thanks in advance.

The codes will be of use...

Expect a 19. - Crank sensor

Ignore the post above, starting with WOT can clear injectors, doesnt sound like thats the issue.

Many thanks - I have just found a How to on replacing the crank sensor too - doesn't look too difficult even for the mechanically challenged like myself. Will phone up the local Stealer see if they have one in stock - fingers crossed! Any idea how much they cost?

its a 2.6, doesnt have leads.. (has plugs and coilpacks)

Its also the pedal trick to check for codes, not the paperclip, howtos are in my signature  Thumbs Up!

Yep, so each cylinder has its' own coil. Be very surprised if more than one had failed, so it would start but with a misfire.

I noticed that in the list of codes there isn't a "19" for crankshaft sensor listed? Or is my brain slightly melded after the holidays?

Yep. Thumbs Up! Pedal test it and see if that comes up.

I have seen failures without a code though.

Just to let you all know, I did the pedal test last night and in a perverse kind of way was delighted to get the code 0335 Crankshaft Sensor. Unfortunately, Vauxhall were going to take a week to get one, however EuroPart round the corner have got one in! Fingers crossed, all should be right with the world tonight.

Many thanks for everyone's help, very much appreciated!
