I took my car to the garage today just told them issue with steering/ suspension. After 2 hours checking the brakes steering front and back bushes subframe springs shocks. He came back and said it was the left front wishbone. That is the second pair of aftermarket wishbones i have fitted. I asked him if he could fit vx bushes to the wishbones on there and he said he did not want to incase didnt fit. He surgested getting a secondhand vx pair and putting in new vx bushes. My question is this a good idea and where can i get a pair or should i get another pair of aftermarket ones and if so which ones. cheers Paul.

Lemforder recommended if not pressing bushes etc. See allgermanparts, £120 a pair ish.

Vx are double that a side afaik.

Pressing is cheapest if you have access to the tools etc, but by no means straightforward, and will undoubtedly cost more than £120 in labour at the garage, ESP if they are not used to/geared up for doing the job.

Just a little piece of advice..........

Even Lemforder wishbones really only last 30k miles, cheaper "ebay specials" last about 20k miles, don't do wishbones without changing the tie bar linkages adjacent to the suspension with the two ball joints at the same time, they will soon rattle too and need changing, and they only cost a modest amount (£20 max).

I've done mine TWICE now since I've had the car, in 70k miles, its just a characteristic of the model if you do lots of high mileage in a short time like me, but its not a bad job to do, a morning will see it done easily, just remember to tighten and torque all bolts AFTER you have taken the car off the jacks, so the bushes dont twist in their mounts, and tracking will need doing too.

These miggy's do tremendous mileages without complaint in comfort, as long as you accept certain things will need doing regularly, and servicing is kept to every 6k miles. Mine has done 168k so far, NEVER let me down, and I'm as confident to do a 600 mile round trip at a moments notice now, as I was when I first got the car. Not many vehicles out there give so much, for so little outlay.

Just a thought or two....... Thumbs Up!
