what about where the spare lives? My Elite saloon has a full size 17'' spare (matching road wheel) with the correct tyre which fits fine in the spare wheel well. Admittedly the cover won't fit, but that doesn't bother me. But, the wheel fits and is strapped in.

Full size fits in estate wheel well, but boot floor then its proud. Well worth the slight inconvenience to be able to change a wheel and carry on without worrying about doing more than 50mph imho.
