Had a self inflickted sage over christmas because I didnt have any anti freeze in the car.

Story is in the Omega help thread, had the car fixed Monday.

Ran like a dream after the misfire had sorted itself out, think it must have been water from it spraying every where.

Wednesday had a lovely day out in Derbyshire and the car didnt miss a beat.

Last night, picked GF up and nipped off to catch up with one of my mates, got 4 mles from home and doing just under 30 mph and there was a funny noise followed by a **!><><***^^^^^******@@@@@@ sort of noise.

Turned of the engine immediately and called my AA to come and collect me.

Just been checking finances and preparing for what I might told. Roll Eyes

mmmm not sounding too good .. Sad

If I understand the sequence of events ...

Frozen engine that you actualy started or a short period.

Once unfrozen you ran it on several occasions when it either got pretty hot or made "odd" noises from the plumbing.

Eventually diagnosed as waterpump sheared impeller - WP replaced

After pump replaced misfire attributed to a further water leak .. possibly HBV.

Now major noises from engine.

Possible scenario's:

... you possibly "cooked" the engine though "local boiling" when running it with no waterpump impellor, this has caused a headgasket failure

... Cam belt/tensioners got soaked/stressed and have now failed

... Parts of the old impellor remained in the system and have just met up with the new impellor

Me thinks you may have been right in the old thread Kevin.

I didnt buy a new idler for the auxilary belt at £62 but supplied water pump and 2 different sized belts.

The guy doing the pump gave a good recky of the cars condition and work / timescales of pending jobs and seemed to know his stuff (is the owner of the garage as well) trusted that the job was right and hoped that he had regreased the idler when refitting. (but forgot to ask him)

Result was a nackersd tenioner and shredded belt. Undecided

Totaly agree Kevin, and shouldnt have happened. Should have had the tensioner fitted as well.

Job has cost £150 but am in the AA Garage and Repair scheme so maybe only £25 excess to pay. Roll Eyes

A "good" result considering the alternatives !!

Might I suggest a check INSIDE the cambelt cover ?? Past "shredding" of the aux belt has, occasionally caused further problems with the cambelt/timing .. and I'd hate you to have more problems that a decent inspection for loose "bits" might avoid ?? A bit of old aux belt causing the timing to jump a tooth or 3 would be a stupid result .. Sad
