my omega doesnt feel right at the moment, like the steering is really vague and wandery on straight roads, replaced front drop links as they were banging over bumps and changed track rods as it failed mot on these. also when accelerating hard gear changes seem to throw the car around. any ideas? Huh

Have you ckecked the condition of the wishbone bushes, how old is the rest of the suspension and what state are the tyres in?

Also after the work you have had done how was the geometery set up afterwards Questioning

Assuming you didn't put falken tyres on (just for you chris) i would be checking the wishbone bushes and then looking at having a full geometry setup done at WIM or one of its partners. Don't waste yourmoney on just traking Thumbs Up!

Without sounding insulting, as it's not meant to come across as that way.

With the car stationary, have you put wheels pointing stright ahead, then move the steering wheel side to side about an inch or two, to see if the front wheels move about the same amount, or if it takes more movement of the steering wheel to make the wheels initially move?

And this link maybe of some use

i had exactly the same problem with my motor just before the bad weather last year , i always felt like the car had a rough idea where i wanted it to be but was never quite sure , a friend tracked the car up for me and then we took it out for a quick spin , got back the tracking was waaaaay out . The culprit , wishbones , and it had passed an MOT not long before . I believe the bushes are quite hard to inspect visually , i could tell the difference straight away when the new ones were fitted .

Its perhaps worth mentioning, i was having a similar sounding issue, car wandering around, seemingly affected by cambering on the road and things. Gave it an MOT as ive only just got it and it failed on the front bush, though when we've inspected it properly the rear one was quite bad also. Currently the whole wishbone is being replaced as its only a few quid more.

Il let you know if that cures it!

if the car feels strange when changing gear I would be looking at rear do-nut bushes as they will make the rear of the car move around

*update* havnt had chance to give the car a good looking over as i work alot of hours, but i noticed on the way home im getting quite bad wheel wobble at around 50mph and the car seems to veer from one side to the other on straight roads. gets really bad in the wind!

Steering idlers ?
(not going in a straight line)

Wheel weights come off? Wheel bearing?
(wheel wobble at 50 mph)

Just an idea

right ive had time to get under the car and give everything a shake, drivers side wheel was tight no movement or play at all, wishbones seem fine too.

But the passengers side had alot of play from the part in the picture. would this cause all the wondering and vagueness in the steering? also is it cheap enough to replace?

The part you are pointing to does look like a steering idler to me.They can be replaced by yourself, you might want a second pair of helping hands. The maintenance guide below shows you how to do it.If you can afford genuine Vx parts then get them as the pattern parts aren't much cheaper to buy but in the long run will need replacing quicker.

Here's the link how to do it :-
