I would replace air filter & fuel filter unless you know they are ok. Otherwise check thin tube that goes from underneath of the middle of the inlet manifold to the charge pressure sensor (looks like a 1" cube) mounted on passenger side of engine compartment. This tends to fill with oil and cause poor acceleration.

Make sure that this:

Is attached to this:

And that the tube is unobstructed and not split anywhere along it's length.
Also make sure that the EGR valve (below) is attached to a two or three port solenoid in the same area on the nearside suspension turret (number of ports depends on age of car):

Worth popping the rubber hose off the front of the engine and making sure the EGR valve itself isn't stuck open, too.
