Traction Control Warning Light !!!
10. Feb 2011 at 05:00

Hi Guy's,
I need help on this one.
I have a Service Warning Light displayed [Car & Spanner] and I also have a Traction Control Warning Light displayed [TC], this display came up during the snow at Christmas and has been constant ever since.
The Auto Transmission has gone into 'Safe Mode' [ie. pulls away in 3rd gear].
I have cleaned / inspected both of the rear sensors and thier connectors / wiring.
I have replaced both of the front sensors with genuine Vx parts [I broke them during extraction].
What the Hell can this be !!!!

Anybody ?????

Try the "pedal trick" in the guides to read the codes.

Once done and nothing serious diagnosed, try a gentle drive for about a mile or so.... I've had TC "errors" after driving in slippery conditions, seems the system gets confused if the rear wheels go significantly faster than each other, or the front ones, for any length if time !!

A steady drive of a mile or two has always sorted them out.

Not saying it is that .. but worth a thought .. pedal check first though in case there is something more serious.

I had similar problem to this a couple of years ago and it turned out to be a faulty gearbox selector switch.

I know ..but just a check to make sure nowt seriously wrong with the engine before driving it ... engine faults can lead to gearbox codes if the ECU's think they are running at different speeds !

It's a free check so a minute to do it MIGHT be useful

Ok, I've been driving the car for the past month.
Its been down and had a new exhaust system, brake pads all round and front disc's.
New MoT.
I should get it back tomorrow so I will check the Engine Codes and post then.

Ok...........Now! I'm convinced that we've cleared the problem.
Having changed the faulty Transmission Selector Switch
[many thanks to Robsey for the good Second Hand Unit & chat] we are ROLLING !!!!!
(Sorry for the delayed responce, my home PC is on the Fritz, never rains does it).
I'd also like to say thanks to ALL the other members that helped with thier 'input'
especially Mr. Kevin Woods of Hampshire (Diamond Geezer).

The Symptoms:
'TC' light on,
'Engine Management' light on,
Heater stopped working (intermittantly),
Electric Window self parking function stopped working (intermittantly),
Transmission entered 'fail safe' mode,
Cruise Control function stopped working,
Sunroof control function stopped working.

It had me baffled....................... Smiley

Cheers Guy's,

Is it sorted?

With that collection of apparently unconnected electrical faults I think I would
1. check the alternator wasn't overcharging or otherwise faulty then
2. check the battery
3. check for broken fuses or fusible links
4. check for dodgy earths or overheating battery terminals.

Have a read of Battery charging and starting diagnosis

Good Luck Thumbs Up!
