Model difference - MV6/Elite?
10. Feb 2011 at 17:19

Hi all,

My dad is looking to get another Omega Estate...

He's wondering what the difference is betweeen the MV6 & the Elite. Mostly the "toys" they come with rather than performance.

Also, what does the crank sensor do, as one car he is looking at says it needs a new one? Is it important that it is replaced, if so, ease of changing/costs?

TIA  Thumbs Up!

MV6 has sportier suspension than the Elite. No self-levelling at the back though.

Crank sensor tells the engine ECU the position of the crankshaft. It's fundamental to the engine actually running. If it's dodgy, the engine is liable to stop when you least expect it. Grin

An easy fix, though, and the sensors are about £50. Use genuine GM, though. Pattern ones tend to be rubbish.

What plate/year?

Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine

Mini face on a 99 T or around that year Elite with be superior to the MV6 by the following

Rear heated seats
Bose Stereo, amp in boot, speakers in rear shelf
Rear Blind
3 position memory seats, incorporating self dimming rear view mirror and wing mirror memory
Wood effect trim
self levelling suspension
Irmscher front grille

Other extra's could of been sat nav and fone, also leather, but you could spec that on MV6's.

I've upgraded quite a few toys from an elite to my MV6, so have the best of both worlds!

I could be wrong on the spec of the elite, I just know what I don't have in mine!!

Cheers

To be honest given the age of the car the MV6 version is probably the smartest buy. An Elite of that age will come full of "toys" half of which will likely no longer work and a Bose stereo system that can't be upgraded without alot of expence and aggravation.

For banger motoring the MV6 is probably the better choice.  Grin

Good to know that info Dean, thanks.  And good point Mark.

Question is:
Which is easier...  Putting all the toys (that may or may not work) from the Elite into an MV6, or putting the sports suspension from the MV6 into an Elite?

And what's the difference in suspension exactly?
Harder shocks and shorter springs?  Can these be bought from Vx / Motor Factor if replacing shocks on a normal model?
(Mine is CDX by the way)

Agreed. Nothing is more annoying than pointless toys that don't work anymore - IMHO. Wink

The later MV6 doesn't have a sunroof, too. Another bonus, IMHO. Better headroom, no heavy motors so far above the C of G, no leaks, no paint flaking off the sunroof frame, no moss growing on the seals, no junk rattling around above the headlining... Thumbs Up!

Upgrading Elite suspension to MV6 is easier, without doubt, unless you just want one or two of the toys.

Differences depend on age. Prefacelift it was only the shocks different, IIRC. Facelift - shocks and springs.

Only thing you cant (sensibly/easily) retrofit into MV6 is the memory functionality for the mirrors. The loom is too embedded, and would be too tedious to retrofit.

I know everything else is easy, as my MV6 has had them fitted:
Bose
CCRT700 (since removed and replaced with NCDC1500)
CARiN (since removed and replaced with NCDC1500)
Rear blind
Rear heated seats
Cruise
Trafficmaster
Autodip rear view mirror
(didn't want self levelling, so never bothered)

Can't think of any other differences.

Obviously a T plate MV6 will be 3.0l, an Elite could be either 2.5 or 3.0.

I've been impressed with all the toys in my Elite.  It literally has every possible option and everything works bar the rear blind, and that would probably work if I bothered to lubricate it but I don't see the point in using it.  Tongue

I've even got the NCDC2015 with phone and satnav, both disc readers work perfectly, phone and sat nav works, self leveling suspension works, sunroof works but I don't use it etc...
