What a waste of a day!
13. Mar 2011 at 20:05

Spent all day trying to change the springs on the back of the MV6. Failed.

How many sets of rear springs have I changed on Omegas before, then have such an epic fail on mine  Embarrassed

Still, all back together (with the old springs), as I need the car tomorrow, and she needs hers (MV6 was blocking her in). Confirmed the subframe bushes are shagged though  Cry

So I'm knackered, my back is screwed, and the MV6 still has a saggy ass.

Attempt 2 will have to wait until April.

I'm gonna go to work with a right monk on tomorrow. A lot of effort and absolutely no further forward.

Only if you let it get to you chap.  Could be so much worse and you don't have a car to use for work  Roll Eyes .

Use the thoughts of how why it didn't go right and how you can get it right next time.

Believe me, it could be worse.  I have an adapted car (disabled drivers controls), try having a car that won't run, having no back-up to use and having to use a fecking rip off taxi service to take you to work, then having to get your mate when they have the time to run up up to an autoservice shop or a helping hand to get the car back on the road so you have mobility.

As the Monty Python 'Yorkshire men'" sketch went...

I'm not sure what I did wrong. I just couldn't get the subframe low enough, and not enough room to get compressors on it.

Only other one that has given my grief was AA's, but he had heavy duty springs, complete with spring assisters.

Sounds similar to when I did them on my old pfl, was a right pita and I couldnt really work out why. Got there eventually.
Can sympathise with the back trouble. I havent been able to put my own socks on this week. Roll Eyes All due to the stupid bird next door who locked her kids and keys in her car. Roll Eyes

Have an idea.

1. use spring compressors to compress the spring enough to clear bodywork / suspension
2. use some steel tie wraps to secure the spring in place
3. undo compressors slowly
4. place springs in place, slowly jack up suspension to close the gap, then cut the steel tie-wraps.

Anyone else think this could work ?.

Just an idea  Thumbs Up!

What's wrong with Mark's Guide ?. Undo shocks and anti roll bar, lower the diff and remove by hand. Ok I was luck on my facelift 'cause all bolts came off, but....

Thats what I did. Its what I always do. No idea why it didn't work.

Jacked up, wheels off.
Release the brak lines from the chassis.
Undo ARB
Undo lower shock mounts
Undo 4 bolts holding rear subframe bushes
Undo exhaust
Lower diff/subframe

Where did I go wrong?
