Question about Omega key
23. Mar 2011 at 21:51

I have had my Omega nearly two months now and realized I had never unlocked the car by putting the key in the door as opposed to just pressing the button, however when I put the key in the door nothing happens, it wont let me turn the key left or right, am I doing something wrong ? I only have one key and am worried if the battery goes I wont be able to get into the car.

Turn the key to the right (clockwise) slowly but firmly, it will "feel" as if the key wants to snap !!

At the same time try and open the door.

Do NOT expect the door "pin" to rise as it usually does when unlocking.

The door will open but it takes a bit of force and conviction !!! If the alarm is set it WILL go off !! key in ignition and switch on to cancel.

isn't that the answer to .......'my battery is flat & I can't get into my car' ? Undecided     Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Wink
The door pin will go up even when unlocked with the key in the door because the micro-switches inside the door will operate the central locking.

Go on, you know you want to Thumbs Up!

I was quite surprised by just how much force is needed. Turn it until you think it'll break, then turn it some more.

Mine didn't, battery was pancaked though. Roll Eyes

As I understand it Andy .. if you use the key in the lock with a working battery, you don't actually "use" the key .. if that makes sense ... the first part of the turn makes an electrical contact that triggers the central locking to unlock all doors .. same as the remote.

My thought was that, given the description by the OP, the electrical contact is not being made, so the "manual" open might work. I also agree that the lock might just be siezed !!

Perfect sense Nige  Thumbs Up! That's what I meant re the micro-switches on the door locks that operate the central locking system.  Wink Wink

From my experience (Facelift) if the door has been dead lock using the Fob then the button wont come up (flat battery mode) but if it was previously dead lock with the Key only then it does pop up.
