Dash display for a V8 conversion
25. Mar 2011 at 14:17

Hi guy's, as i have mentioned before, i am thinking of replacing my 2.0 4 cylinder ecotec lump for a GM LS series V8. I can see straight away that my current dash (speedo/rev count) display will probably NOT be suited to a V8 lump and was wondering, would a V6 display be ok for purpose or would i need something else?
If something else is required then does anyone have any ideas?
I also guess that the wiring looms on a LS series V8 will not plug straight into the current dash systems or would they?
Hope this one has some answers as i am at a loss. Thanks.

Why oh why was there never a V8 Omega????
Such a missed oppurtunity.
Look forward to the Cadillac ATS & ATS-V. Maybe a re-badged one will replace the Miggy as a RWD runner?

Why is a gls dash not suitable, out of interest?
There was a v8 mv6 with ls1 on piston heads not so long ago, looked entirely stock apart from the gear stick. Clocks and all.... ?

I was under the impression that maybe the rev counter would need to have different markings as mine is around 7000 at red line pluse the speedo tops out for 140mph???
I would have thought slightly higher markings would be needed for both dials?

The LS series engines, if I recall, red-line at about 6000rpm unless it's a very special build - generally speaking the more cylinders you have, the lower it revs (excluding exotica).

As for the speedo.. how fast are you planning on going?

Never planning on going faster than 80-90mph (mostly 70 though) but want to be sure it will be calibrated correctly?

Speed signal is taken from the abs sensors on the rear drive shafts, as I understand it. So any gear box or dif changes will have affected the gearing prior to the abs pick up. So it'll be fine mate.  Thumbs Up!

Thanks cem, but it seems to only mention attachment to a 4L60E auto box. I guess that it would work almost the same with a Tremec T56 6 speed manual box???
